Trump readies high power charge against social networks after fight with Twitter

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is getting ready to issue an executive order that aims to limit and control the reach of social networks, a real challenge in times when, practically, these are the new mass media and they liberate absolutely freedom of expression.

As reported by media from Washington, the US president is going to lend himself to legal arguments set forth in section 230 of the decency law of communications in that country, which prevents the technology companies that own social networks from being responsible of the comments, videos and other resources that users share through social networks.

The order that is expected to be issued by Trump in the next few hours, would give instructions to federal executives to open procedures to reconsider the scope of that law, regarding networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TicToc, among others.

That executive order from Trump would be empowering the Federal Trade Commission to collect complaints about damages, so this body would be in charge of conducting investigations.

At the same time, it would urge federal agencies to reconsider the budgets they invest in these renowned social networks, both in broadcasting and advertising campaigns, sources from the White House have indicated.
